HVAC Supervisor
Greene County, NC 

This position is assigned to the Eastern Region Maintenance Yard and located at Eastern CI in Maury, NC.  The primary purpose of this position is the installation, maintenance, and repair of HVAC and refrigeration units and associated air handling, chilled water distribution, and control systems at an Adult Correctional /Juvenile Justice facility and/or support buildings through the supervision of HVAC mechanics, technicians and inmates and other staff engaged in this type of work. He/she is responsible for planning individual jobs and long term work operations as well as ensuring the Preventive Maintenance, work orders and inventories are completed through the use of a MMS system. He/she is responsible for assuring that subordinates receive proper safety training and work methods, proper use of tools and equipment and quality control associated with installation and repair work. He/she will be responsible for pricing and obtaining bids for the procurement of materials to complete assigned tasks. He/she performs independently under the supervision of a Maintenance Manager and is evaluated through safe, effective and efficient equipment installation and repair.

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities / Competencies

Listed below are the knowledge, skills and abilities (KSAs) associated with this position.  These KSAs, along with the minimum education and experience listed, are required in order to be deemed "eligible" for the position.  Therefore, you must demonstrate through documented experience or provide supporting information within the body of your application to demonstrate your possession of ALL KSAs listed.

  • Documented working knowledge of refrigeration theory and of electricity to troubleshoot, repair and install complex electrical control systems associated with refrigeration equipment.
  • Documented working knowledge of the design and operation of centrifugal and reciprocal compressors and chillers.
  • Documented working knowledge of the practices, methods, materials and equipment used in the operation, maintenance, repair and installation of HVAC systems.
  • Documented ability to diagnose equipment malfunctions and to prescribe and perform repair procedures, and the skill to use related tools and equipment in the repair of air conditioning and heating systems.
  • Documented ability to work from schematics or drawings.
  • Documented capability of developing material lists in the installation, design and repair of HVAC/Refrigeration equipment.
  • Documented knowledge of the design and operation of pneumatic control systems
Management Preference:
  • Preference given to candidates with 5 years or more supervisory experience in HVAC and or Refrigeration
  • Preference given to candidates with 1 year or more technical training in HVAC or refrigeration
  • Preference given to candidates with a license in HVAC and or Refrigeration trade
     
Minimum Education and Experience Requirements

High school or General Educational Development (GED) diploma and up to three years of journey level experience in the installation, maintenance or repair of air conditioning chillers, air handling, chilled water distribution and control systems including one year at the journey level; or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Necessary Special Qualifications Requires current certification by the Environmental Protection Agency as a Type I, II, III or Universal technician as required by Title 40, Code of Federal Regulations part 82, subpart F.
